One peculiarity of the electronic
passport marketplace is the fact that it exists due
to legislative decree. As such, a unique set of economic
drivers and constraints must be balanced. The move
from traditional passports to electronic passports
involves the addition of relatively complex and high
value components which are foreign to the typical
producer of secure, paper-based documents and requires
changes in many of the processes involved in producing
a document. Its is expected that there are a multitude
of both obvious and non-obvious economic impacts that
will take time to fully understand as the “all
paper” to “paper plus electronic”
transition is made. Electronic Passport Forum will
provide a venue for discussion of special concerns
for vendors across the entire electronic passport
supply chain.
